Te Anau is Fiordland's largest town and a great base from which to explore the wonderland that is Fiordland National Park.
From the Arran Motel, it is an easy two hour drive to the magical Milford Sound via the Milford highway, noted to be one of the best alpine drives in the world. Alternatively, you can take a 20 minute drive to Lake Manapouri, where excursions out to beautiful Doubtful Sound begin.
There are many ways to explore the 1.2 million acres that is Fiordland. You can take to the air by scenic flight, tramp the famous Milford Track, the Kepler Track, the Routeburn Track or explore the Hollyford Valley. Cruise the sounds by boat and view marine life, native rainforest, towering peaks and cascading waterfalls. Alternatively you can hire a sea kayak and take to the waters at your own pace.
There is much to see in Te Anau as well, with cruises on the lake to the Te Anau glow worm caves, horse treks, farm tours, hunting, fishing, 4WD tours, motorbikes as well as shopping and dining in the township itself.
